our goals

To empower mothers re-entering the workforce with access to workplace experiences and training.

Our goals are to empower mothers back into work. We aim to raise their level of confidence about entering the workplace and in starting the journey to explore opportunities and education and to find the right fit engaging at their own pace.

Fewer than 1 in 5

mothers return to work in the first five years following childbirth*

In 2023, only 13%

of mothers think it is viable to work full-time and 98% would like to return to work 13%*

Women are 7x

more likely than men to be out of work due to caring commitments**

Being a mother is a 24-hour role and can be a lonely and disempowering place. Childcare costs are very expensive and can force mothers to leave work for several years, causing them to be out of touch with companies, their employers and up-to-date skills and training.

Employer references for work are required to be within the last two years but many mothers cannot get back on the employment ladder as their references have become out of date whilst spending 3 years or more at home raising children. This can lead to discrimination and a loss of self-confidence in getting back into work.

There is currently no support for mothers wanting to return to the workforce coming from a society or government level. They are expected to struggle and somehow work it out.

Our audience

Who is this platform aimed at?

Our community of mothers is diverse and we are an inclusive initiative. We recognise and accept the challenges arising from motherhood to maintain strong careers.

This platform is for mothers who may have been locked out of the workforce because of various reasons and need support to re engage. The reasons can be simple such as spending years at home being a fantastic mother or complex such as finding themselves unexpectedly to be sole breadwinners. Complex reasons can be parenting neurodiverse children and  needing opportunities to reconnect with the work place.

Some mothers may find the need to be supported in that first step to re enter the workplace due to extenuating circumstances.

For example having unexpectedly left their country of origin after a very successful career.

Many of these mothers carry valuable skills sets extremely useful to companies that can benefit companies in meeting their skills shortages if they are open to meeting these mothers. Mothers into Work opens and develops networks and creates bespoke packages to open doors of opportunities.

We are an inclusive initiative built on our values of compassion and empowerment. We therefore understand that some fathers may have taken on “traditional mothering roles” and may need our support and help too.

Our Vision

Mothers into work vision is for the United Kingdom to start a worldwide movement that culminates in annual Mothers into Work global conferences starting in London in 2025. We aim to have a steering committee made up of committed supporters to this great cause and community social enterprise.
